Tiles
Natural surface tiles
Natural surface tiles are slabs of varying thickness. This difference is due to the natural stratification of Trentino porphyry which also determines its typology. They are subdivided into two categories according to whether their sides were split or sawn. For the former we will talk of tiles split edges for the latter tiles sawn edges. The cut of both types is parallel and perpendicular to its surface. Corners are at a 90° angle. Width is calculated in multiples of 50mm, ranging between 100 and 400 mm, for split side tiles. Sawn side tiles are made according to the specific project. Length is variable. The thickness of the tile determines its use: between 2 and 6 cm for outdoor paving free of traffic, between 5 and 8 cm for roads where there is light traffic. For roads with intense or heavy traffic, tiles of greater thickness are needed.

Tiles with finished surfaces
Porphyry tiles with a finished surface differ from natural surface ones for they are produced from the cutting of blocks. The surface can be finished in various ways: sawn, polished, smoothed, flamed, bush hammered, sandblasted and brushed. The sides are always sawn. The thickness of the tiles is regular, usually either 20 or 30 mm. Sizes are determined according to the design and can be random and of fixed measurement or cut to size.
