Cobbles

Porphyry cobbles are cubic paving elements which are obtained through mechanical splitting. They feature a natural surface top and bottom and four lateral sides. Being mechanically split, the corners and dimensions may end up irregular. For this reason the cubes are divided by type and size which allows for minimum differences in dimensions.
The end use of the surface determines the type of material to be used. Material with a lesser thickness is used for the paving of pedestrian zones or with limited traffic access. Thicker material is used for medium to dense traffic concentration zones.

Specific Features

The cobbles are usually divided into two categories: one for linear paving and one for overlapping arcs paving.
For linear paving:

  • Type 80×80: The side measures 80mm with a tollerance of +/- 5mm. The thickness can vary from 30 to 60 mm and from 60 to 100 mm.
  • Type 100×100: The side measures 100mm with a tollerance of +/- 5mm. The thickness can vary from 30 to 60 mm and from 60 to 100 mm.
  • Type 100 x random length: The width measures 100mm whereas the length is random. The thickness can vary from 30 to 80 mm and from 80 to 100 mm.
